parkrun may be celebrating ten years of getting people out to run on a Saturday morning, but it’s fairly new to Cornwall, with the first one (Lanhydrock) only appearing this year. However, momentum is gradually growing, with a future parkrun in Helston recently announced, and the first running of Tamar Lakes parkrun on Saturday.
Runners of all ages turned out in grey conditions for the first edition of this latest parkrun, and were rewarded with a glimpse of sunshine as they set off. The 67 finishers included the tail runner, a chap who had a heart attack just four weeks ago! That does put some of our tamer excuses for not running into perspective, doesn’t it? One lady even celebrated her birthday at parkrun, and was treated to a rendition of “Happy Birthday To You” as she crossed the line.
There were one or two teething problems, as there often are with the first running of an event, and we’re still waiting for the results to be posted on the parkrun website. But the feedback we’ve seen has been overwhelmingly positive, and the cafe seems to have done a brisk trade in bacon butties!

Can you volunteer?
parkrun depends on volunteers for events to continue – if you think you can help out at one of their events, you can email the Tamar Lakes parkrun helper team at firstname.lastname@example.org.
