There was a healthy turnout for the tough St Ives Bay 10K in great conditions last night. Former county cricketer and now Cheltenham based athlete Ben Price took the honours for the third time in a row in a cracking time of 35:40, considering the terrain. Julian Mann of Winchester AC was a few minutes behind, just ahead of Hayle Runner Lewis Hill, who was the first local home. First lady home was Hayle’s own Emma Schuck, who is evidently flying over the shorter distances and should be a favourite for Cubert next week, or on the track for the county 5K champs tomorrow. She was well clear of club-mate (and sister) Lucy Paull, and both Eleanor Dixon and Zoe McKune, who tied for third.
There was a record turnout in the fun run with more than 50 taking part including a large contingent from Hayle Juniors. The boys race was a Hayle Juniors 1/2 won by Aaron Perry with Jude Hardy in second and Sam Wisner in third. Kezia Elliot was the first girl home with Abigail Jose in second and Jess Hutchinson in third. Hayle Deputy Mayor Nick Farrar was on hand to present the medals, and hosts Hayle Surf Life Saving Club put on a great BBQ.
